Cliff Keen: Leadership in Wrestling (ft. Myles Amine)

Cliff Keen came to us asking for a video that showed off the beauty and inherent value of being a wrestler. We identified the three main values they felt Cliff Keen represents: Leadership, Discipline and Tradition.

With the recent NIL rules, they sponsored an incredible athlete by the name of Myles Amine. Cliff Keen made it clear that even though Myles is a world class athlete and an Olympic bronze medalist, they wanted the advertisement to be about wrestling first and foremost.

The interview set up. This is the wrestling room in Myles' basement where he says all kinds of rough housing went on with his brother and cousins. Wrestling has been a huge part of his families lives, and he continues the tradition.

Myles sat down for our interview, and talked about a lot. We spoke in depth about the three values defined by Cliff Keen. He spoke about leadership in such a unique and special way, that we ended up using a portion of it for this Ad. His experience with leadership in wrestling was all about leading by example. He said that in order to be a good leader in wrestling, you need to look out for your self first. If you take care of your self and make sure you're performing at your best, the rest will fall into place and others will emulate your hard work.

When it came time to choosing a location for the shoot, we decided that going to Myles' childhood house was where we would get the most authentic version of Myles. We set up in a little room in the basement that was fully padded from floor to ceiling that was set up that way by his father so that he and his brother could wrestle whenever they wanted to. Myles told us that often times the wrestling would turn into your general rough housing that is expected out of two you boys.

We chose to shoot on a RED Komodo because we knew there would be a lot of fast paced action during the wrestling and the workout portions of the shoot, and the Komodo has a global shutter. This means the action and fast camera moves would look as clear and true to real life as possible.

Myles and his cousin were used as our wrestling talent. We don't know a lot about wrestling moves, so it was important for us to have a coach on hand, as well as encourage Myles to speak up as much as possible so that we had an authentic performance. We take pride in delivering a compelling piece of work that is now regularly displayed on the Big Ten Network as a 30second ad slot.
